These past two weeks focusing on pets has been really fun for Kingston! We have done tons of fun activities, read lots of pet themed books, watched shows about pets, and K even learned to take more responsibility with his own pet! In case you missed our pet posts, here is what we did:
One of Kingston's favorite activities of the week was a Pet Gross Motor Movement Game!
To create the game, I printed and laminated some large paw prints with my Scotch Thermal Laminator. I taped them to the floor, and demonstrated different pet movements to Kingston for him to copy. He ran like a puppy, flew like a bird, swam like a fish, hopped like a frog and rabbit, and crawled like a cat. He had a blast making the different movements, and he did a really good job of doing his movements on the paw prints and following direction!
Kingston colored tons of pictures of dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, fish, and turtles this week!
He also used his fine motor skills to create a pet sticker collage!
We used these Pet Picture-Word Cards from PreKinders to go over our vocabulary and to explore different pets and concepts. I laminated these, hole punched them, and put them on a binder ring. He loved looking at these independently over the two weeks.
We played with a lot of pet themed toys this week. Some of his favorite were these Our Generation Dogs. They have a fuzzy texture and come with their own little leashes. He liked pretending to walk them around the house.
We watched quite a few pet themed shows this week: Minnie's Pet Salon, Daisy's Pet Project, Woofster Finds a Home (Super Why), and Berenstain Bears Pet Show.
Kingston recently got this awesome Melissa & Doug Deluxe Latches Board, and he is obsessed! He has been playing with it constantly throughout these past couple of weeks. It is such a great toy for working fine motor skills, and he is doing really well at mastering opening the different latches and clasps.
At the same time that I printed and laminated the large paw prints, I also made some tiny replicas. Using these, K did a one to one sorting activity with his muffin tin. He also worked on counting them and sorting them into the wipes case that we have used in the past.
K's letter recognition has exploded over the past two weeks. We some time spelling out different pet names this week, but most of our alphabet time was spent with our giant Discovery Kids ABC's Fabric Play Set. I proud to announce that Kingston has mastered almost the entire alphabet now!
These two weeks have definitely been productive! For the next couple of weeks, we are focusing on Dinosaurs.
